The Liebert Engineering, Inc. Team was hired by Chiptec Wood Energy Systems to design the control system for a new wood chip gasifier system for North Country Hospital in Newport, VT.
The system is coupled with a new 500 HP, 300 PSI Hurst boiler and a 265 kW steam turbine. In addition to the boiler producing steam that will heat the hospital and make electricity, the steam that is generated will also help operate other essential equipment within the hospital, among them the equipment used to sterilize surgical instruments, the kitchen’s dishwashers, and the laundry room’s clothes dryers. It will also produce the hospital’s hot water.
Design services included:
• Control System Design including:

- Panel Layouts
- Detailed Control Wiring and Ladder Logic Diagrams
- I/O and Instrument Lists
- Emergency Stop / Safety Interlock Design
• Power Distribution Including VFDs on Most Motors
Of Special Note:
System was designed with safety class relays for E-Stop circuits, including fully redundant components and wiring.
